Responding to the challenge of commission painting has been an interesting experience. Commissions allow me to extend my artistic rage while responding to the ideas of others.
Working with commission clients is uniquely challenging and the most demanding of assignments can also be the most satisfying. Capturing a mindset, generating momentum and creating the harmony that culminates from working together creates an intriguing work environment.
Every commission is approached with a degree of trepidation. I am mindful that working outside my comfort zone on potentially challenging assignments allows me to hone my skills, perfect my technique and paint a reputation for myself.
Commissions keep me grounded and when self-belief is on the wane I remind myself that being asked to capture an image for future generations is a privilege and a statement of confidence in my artistic skills.
One veteran of the marketing industry recently lamented the paucity of commission paintings.
“I like to thing the art adorning my walls is a reflection of me for all to see”, he said.
“I have a passion for fine art. I have a passion for fine art that demonstrates discipline and technique. But above all I have a passion for fine art which incorporates discipline, technique and a meaningful personal dimension. One must reward ones passions.”
